Cavalier Zoysia forms a thick lawn
with fine textured leaf blades(3-4mm) with a
dark green color. Cavalier differs from
other zoysia varieties because of its very
fine, long, narrow leaf blades. Like
Palisades, Cavalier requires less water and
fertilizer while having comparable shade
tolerance and producing a thicker turf than
St. Augustine. Highly disease resistant,
Cavalier is immune to tropical sod webworm,
fall armyworm, tawny mole cricket, hunting
billbug and differential grasshopper.
Slightly susceptible to zoysia grass mite.

Mowing is a critical and often under
appreciated
cultural practice:
- Maintain Cavalier at 1.5-2.5" (2" is
optimal)
- Tolerates mowing to .5-.875 for
sports turf/golf course applications -
mow 2-3 times per week
- Heights above 2.5" will reduce
quality
- Rotary mowers are preferred for
heights 1" or higher
- Reel mowers are preferred for
heights below 1"
- Mow every 5-7 days during the active
growing season
- Mow every 10-14 days, or as needed,
during cooler weather
- Never cut more than 1/3 of the total
length of the blade at any one mowing
